Jeska and Tape found when the participants had already gathered at the meeting place waiting to be taught how to remove banana stems from a complete stove. The participants had the panga, a shovel to be used to remove banana stems from a stove as well as shape the stove. They had also planned to teach the participants how to smear a complete stove as it was necessary for the stove to look neat as well as last longer. Kibo staff divided the community into two groups where by Jeska will focus on teaching about smearing of a stove and its importance where as the other Tape would focus on smearing. Tape asked her team mates to look for ash, termite dirt and water that she will use to smear a stove. Jeska practically removed banana stems from the complete stove, removed the dirt that was stuck inside the stove to allow air to go through easily for the stove to be effective.she did this as she explained to the participants the whole process. She also shaped the stove and enlarged the hole for firewood to provide enough room for roasting maize and putting fire for cooking food. After Tape also practically smeared the complete stove so that it looked neat and durable. She also encouraged the home to smear the entire kitchen so that it can also look neat. Kibo staff told the participants to get ready to try on their own to remove banana stems from the next stove in the next visit. This is because the program aims at empowering them with a skill of building stoves which they can later turn into business. Kibo staff also decided to walk through some homes in the upper section and see whether they were using their stoves on daily basis basis or their had smeared them. They found when most people were cooking on their stoves and this was evidenced by finding food cooking by itself.The major challenge was smearing some participants had only smeared the stove and leaving the entire kitchen un attended too. Kibo staff taught them on the importance of smearing and encouraged them to smear the entire kitchen to be durable. The participants promised to improve where they did not perform well.
