Notes
Ida went to Maliga to teach about how to build a chicken coop and it’s use. She started with the recap in order to find out how much they remembered the previous lessons. She found out that many were confused with the two types of feeds which are chic and duck mash and growers mash. Ida explained the difference between chic and duck mash and growers mash. Chic and duck mash is for chics from day one to week eight and then growers mash is for male chickens (cocks) from week nine to week sixteen. At week eight, you should be able to identify a hen and a cock. Once you identify them divide them according to their sex in order to maintain the feeding. Cocks eat more than hens and also eat fast. If they are left together in one coop, the hens will not have enough. The importance of coops is to prevent the chics from being eaten by the wild cats and dogs. It will also keep the mother away from the chics which will make her lay eggs sooner than when she stayed with her chics. And also the chicken coop will keep the thieves who steal our chics from the bushes away. Ida asked the community to come with a pole next time for coop demonstration.
