Alex went back to Butabira having been disrupted by the rains last Friday. Together with the community development officer from Magada S/C, village chairman and the Sanitation committee covered the upper section of the village moving home to home checking on home facilities and new facilities. The current heavy rains have damaged some of the facilities in some homes. Two pit latrines collapsed two days ago but the main reason was that they had not been roofed and so the people were encouraged to roof their pit latrines quickly to prevent them from falling apart, however many people have stepped up and maintained their sanitation standards. The other facility that have come up is the construction of dish rack in homes. The new design of the movable type have recently been embraced by many people even when there is a challenge of poles in the village. The community development officer was amazed by what she saw and thanked Kibo group for help to this village towards sanitation and hygiene improvements. This village eight months ago was in a bad state but there is a great change observed in the village. The village chairman Mr. Buyinza and the committee confess that everyone in village is using a pit latrine. Together as a group they moved in about 38 homes in the village and there was no case of open defecation. The current heavy rains have done some damage to the sanitation facilities and they kept encouraging people to replace their facilities that have collapsed due to the rains and quickly maintain them. A third survey will soon be conducted in the village to determine the sanitation status of the village before the new borehole drilling in this village as it’s the plan from Kibo group. After the walk in the village, they came in a meeting to discuss about a way forward to have their borehole repaired. The village contributed 600,000/= towards the repair about 15% and balance to be topped up by Kibo group. The total cost will be 4,085,000/= towards the repair. Water flow company will be the one to supply the parts to kibo group to repair the well in Butabira. The company made some deductions on pipes and rods to save money than it had been originally thought. The village is now struggling to get water because this well has broken down and the only hope is to have this well repaired very soon.

2020-11-06 - Purpose: To carry out the borehole repair after buying the required parts and continue to engage the village to meet the required sanitation standards.
