Notes
Enock and Martin walked around this village to check on the progress of latrine construction, dish racks, shower areas, kitchen areas, hand washing facilities, clean compounds, rubbish pits among others. Enock and Martin with the chairman LC1, VHT and the police officer moved around continuing to encourage, monitor, evaluate, sensitize and reminding them the importance and benefits of having all the facilities in their homes. There were some two stubborn families which for long didn’t have latrines and they used not to stay in their homes because they feared to continue lying to Kibo staff that they will dig a new latrine. It was shocking to meet them in their homes, they showed us the new pit of about 17ft deep and they are yet to construct on it. They said they are planning to dig a 20ft deep pit then they construct a structure on it. They have now gotten the courage to stay around since they are working to improve on their sanitation. There are homes which were visited and they had very good facilities, clean compounds, well smeared houses in their compounds, using dish racks, shower areas well maintained. Some people have already brought in the idea of hand washing facilities though others haven’t constructed them yet. Enock also encouraged them to wash their hands every day before eating anything. Kibo stsff also continued to teach them the use of ash in the latrines as Martin demonstrated how to apply it. The police officer and Local leaders also appreciated the great work of teaching and encouraged the residents to construct good standard facilities. There was a big number of residents in there gardens since it had rained the previous day, busy planting seeds and some weeding already. Generally there is a great improvement in this sanitation and hygiene of this community.
