Alex, Tape Bwana, Harriet and Alex B were in Ndhalike village to conduct commissioning of the new borehole drilled by Kibo group together with the stoves constructed by the village and kibo group staffs in the stoves program. We had a great day indeed having had all the government officials present including the community development officer, the district water officer, the parish chief, the LC 3, LC 2 and the woman concillor. The community organized the party and it was a lot of celebration indeed with many of the people appreciating kibo group for the good work done in the village. The village leaders all thanked kibo group for helping them reach this status that their village being admired by all the surrounding villages in the sub county. The leaders too from the sub county led by the community development officer thanked kibo group for the support in the sub county and helping the government of Uganda reach some of the places it can’t help. The district water officer also appreciated kibo group for the two boreholes that were given to Ndhalike and thanked kibo group for this continued support in Kamuli district. He also asked if Kibo group would extend its activities in other villages in the district as its always the norm for all the government leaders asking for more. More than 150 people were present at this function and even the school kids in the nearby school performed a poem about Covid -19 prevention and a speech. They then visited some of the homes that have the stoves and were all looking very beautiful before moving to the new borehole to commission the new borehole. The water user committee and all the community members were encouraged by kibo and the leaders to take good care of their two wells. This visit marked the end of WASH making physical trips to this village but will remain in touch calling the water user committees about their responsibilities and encourage to keep a safe water chain. 

Next Visit

2021-09-20 - Purpose: Follow up on the sanitation and water committees about the village sanitation status and the borehole status.

Program Success

The commissioning party went on very well and all the people were very happy with all the kibo activities in the village

Program Critical Needs

There is need to keep both of the borehole accounts active with the village saving money for any future repairs.

Program Ownership

The water and sanitation committee have vowed to keep the boreholes functioning meeting all required standards and as well maintain the sanitation and hygiene standards

Other Program Observations

The stoves program was well embraced by the community members both women and men participated

To remain active as the water and sanitation committee making sure that the village water and sanitation standards are kept by the village committees and leaders

To keep in touch with the sanitation and water user committee making sure that the village continues to maintain the required sanitation and hygiene standards.
