Notes
Suzan, Tape and Jessica went to the village purposely to build the first demonstration stove. When they got there, they found the women already gathered at the meeting place with some of the building materials such as the They happily welcomed Kibo staff to their village and together they sat down and had a few discussions on how the activity was going to be carried out that day. The community members got up leading the way to a nearby bush where they all participated in digging out the dirt from the termite hill while they carried it to the program committee chairperson’s home (Dinah)outside her kitchen compound. Kibo staffs begun measuring the dirt two basins and one basin of grass while mixing it until it all turned to 10 basins of dirt and 5 basins of grass. And after mixing the dirt and grass, water was sprinkled all over it while the members stood aside watching and listening attentively to the lessons. Suzan requested the the members to join in stamping the dirt for this would make it ready easily and faster. Together they stamped the dirt while dancing and singing until it got ready for building the stove. Kibo staff went ahead and cut the banana stems, showing the members how they were measured by placing two hands on it then cutting it. The dirt was then carried inside the kitchen and Kibo staffs began building the stove while the members stood at the corner watching and following each step taught. This was very important because being the first time and the members needed to learn and follow each step of building the energy saving stove while Kibo staffs explained every step. A stove was finally built and the members were so excited and grateful for the healthy and safe kitchen program, promising to always work together as a team for an effective development. Kibo staffs thanked the members for participating in the demonstration process, saying it would enable them learn easily once they continued working together. The members were also encouraged to keep maintaining all their home facilities especially smearing the kitchens and stoves so that the entire home looks much more healthier and neater. The meeting came to an end after they all agreed on the next person that would receive stove.
