Notes
When Tom reached the village, he found when the vhts were waiting for him and together they started moving around the village checking on sanitation and hygiene improvements. They started from the section of the chairman and there, they found residents working on new dish racks while one resident has started on a new latrine even though the old one is still good. He said the new one he has started, he plans to construct it with cement so he said he wants to start it early as he plans. Also two young men have also started on a new one and their pit is about 18ft deep. They said they would prefer it to reach 25ft before they can construct on it. Tom thanked them for being pro active and encouraged them to continue working and finish it. They are also fixing their mother’s kitchen. Later Tom and the vhts moved towards the trading centre where they found one latrine almost finished. The resident has been one of the stubborn residents in the village but he was very happy and proud for his new facilities for his home. His neighbour has also brought bricks and Tom encouraged him to start soon and finish it before the rain season starts or the rain will destroy the pit. Tom also demonstrated and taught about hand washing and how ash can be used in latrines to eliminate flies as well as reduce smell. In the home where they did the demonstration, the residents were very amazed how flies left the latrine and the smell was reduced instantly. Tom encouraged the residents to use the methods and also teach their neighbours.
