Notes
Enock and Martin met the LC1 and VHTs waiting for them in the trading centre so they can start walking home to home to continue teaching, encouraging, evaluating and assessing the progress of latrine construction, shower areas, dish racks, kitchen areas, rubbish pits e.t.c. Enock and Martin planned to teach on standardization of the facilities, maintenance, construction of soak pits and proper drainage on shower areas, use of ash as well as the values and benefits of all the facilities in the home. But before teaching the importance of all the facilities, they reminded them about the problem and diseases that may result due to poor sanitation and hygiene. They walked in few homes in the trading centre and continued towards the homes near the swamp and also the section where the chairman LC1 comes from. There are three new latrines constructed, two new shower areas, 5 rubbish pits, clean compounds and use of dish racks to dry the utensils after washing them. This shows how many people have embraced the program and working towards improving on the sanitation of the whole community. There are also some ladies who were met in their homes and they were just so appreciative for the program of sanitation. They for long didn’t have latrines and there husbands didn’t take any initiatives of digging pit latrines for their homes. They continued and said they had a lot of open defection around and people would laugh at them. As they have constructed most of the facilities, they can now welcome visitors, share a meal confidently without shame of the past. The chairman LC1 is also constructing a new latrine in his home.
In addition Enock and Martin also attended a funeral of one of the residents who passed away in this village. They spent some time with the community residents who came to attend the funeral, engaged in some few actives of fetching water, as well as passing on their sincere condolence to the family. This was to show, Kibo and the community are together as one family. After awhile, they embarked on their journey back to Jinja before it was dark.
